RC8: First night out

I tested this RC8 at Pedernales falls park, TX. It was a clear night with okayish seeing. I have been working on this setup for some time, and the first night out went well and I shot NGC 2403 (C-7) in LRGBHa at original FL of 1625mm (actual = 1613mm). Overall, I loved RC8 and enjoyed the low-level control it provides over the optics, but I missed the plug-and-play of my little refractor. Fortunately, the mount worked and handled the load well. The only issue I had was the cold outside, which made me rush the star test and fine-tuning process for optimal collimation. Therefore, I got abnormal star shapes, especially around the periphery. The biggest challenge was to get the OAG working. My guide camera sensor was too small to get enough stars for guiding. I had to tweak things a bit to get the guiding working but once I set a good guide star, I was getting guiding errors around 0.80" - 0.90". Overall, the step up from my Redcat 51 to the RC8 (1600mm) has been a pleasant experience. The Redcat will be used for stargazing when the imaging rig is running.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
